Question:

i plan on insulating my attached garage. my question is..the ceiling is already dry-walled, what do i do about a vapour barrier on the ceiling before i insulate it?

love your show, listen on am800 cklw in windsor, ON.

thanks

Answer:

That's usually a pretty poor job of taping and jointing anyway so I normally (whether its a poor job or not) just put 6 mm poly over it and then add another layer of half or 5/8" drywall to finish it up. The ceiling in any uppermost room is a major heat loss area anyway so the more bulk I get up there the happier I am.
