Thanks for your response Ren, but it sounds like an expensive job because I have to cut the walls etc to install an air return duct. What if I leave the fan from the furnace running while the heat is on, do you think that would help with the cold air coming from the cold room, my neighbour suggested that but I decided to ask you the expert first

It will help a bit but it certainly won't equal the efficiency nor the effectivness of a proper return air duct and grill.
