we have an 1184 sq. ft module home that was built in 1996. We have a mid-efficient gas forced air furnace; however, there are no cold air returns. Should there be? Would they make our home more cost efficient than it is? One end of our home is cooler than the rest but the other 2/3 is very comfortable. Would this be due to no cold air returns or the fact that the furnace is more to one end rather than centred. What would you recommend to allow the cooler end to become warmer in the winter?
Answer:
If the furnace has warm air ducts, you can tune them to provide the extra heat for the offending area. If there are no ducts, you might want to use a small fan to move air around more.
