I keep hearing you say not to put underlayment under a carpet in the basement on concrete floor. Why is that? What can be done to increase the warmth of the floor?

You also hear me say that the warranty on the carpet is compromised if you do it my way. My feeling is that if the basement floor floods for whatever reason, both underpad and carpet have to be discarded. Without the underpad the carpet can normally be cleaned, dried and used again.
