Question:

I have a decorative natural gas fireplace built into the wall of my living room. It is built into the wall, with wood trim and a mantle, with outside venting. During the winter the wood trim is very cold to the touch, slightly drafty and often with a frosty build up. The trim sounds hollow behind. Additional insulation or sealant is required. What is appropriate for insulating or sealing around the fireplace?

Answer:

The ownership manual for the fireplace should tell you all about that. Do not compromise anything it dictates.
