Top > Humidity & Moisture > Carpet

Question:

We seem to have brown mold on the top of our carpet inside the patio doors where I know moisture from rain has entered. I pulled up the carpet and it is dry but I can see dark stains on the plywood floor adjacent to the doors which is also dry. The is a 'musty' smell that seems to come and go when it rains, and I am wondering if this would activate the mold and cause the smell. I tried to clean the mold from the carpet but it did not respond.

Answer:

The mould, it would appear, is there to stay and the only way you'll get rid of the odour is to ventilate until it goes. You'll have to competely dry out the sub-flooring in that area too.
