Question:

Ren I Know this is one of your favorites - heard it so often on your show- but now I have the problem myself. Own a rental unit, tenants not what you would call cleaners. The tenant called to complain about grey/black on the bathroom, and when checked, the bathroom fan had NEVER been cleaned. I told him to wash the walls and ceiling with a mixture of bleach and warm water, and my husband cleaned the fan, somewhat. Should I replace the fan, and what should the proportions be of bleach to water to clean off the mould?

Answer:

If the fan were used as much as it should be, it wouldn't need to be cleaned. My suggestion here would be to put it on the same switch as the light. The only thing tenants (and kids) hate more than noise is darkness.
