Question:

At the moment I use the cottage mainly in the summer but hope to use it soon spring to fall. The cottage heat is currently electric baseboard but I hope some day to install forced air but for now I have to also run a small fan in the back bedrooms to move the air. With fixing the vents I hope to eliminate the dampness in these rooms. I shut down completely for the winter and do not run any power. I think you said to close the foundation vents then, is this right? I listen to your show on CHUM (Toronto, Ontario) most Saturdays in the winter and a few times during the summer. You have solved many of my problems (including roof venting) and given me inspiration.

Answer:

You shouldn't need the vents during the winter months but make sure you open them as early in the spring as you can - as the thaw begins.
