Top > Insulation > Odour

Question:

Hello, I have looked for info in Q&A but haven`t found exactly what I was looking for. This is a lakeside cottage, there is no entry to basement from living quarters, outside access only two doors. I have tried a exaust fan left the doors oppened but still humid and smelly. Living quarter floor insulated prior to lifting cottage 5´ access now in basement. Exterior walls insulated with 6" pink insulation and a vapor barior. Poly on ground covered with 1 to 1 1/2" of sand. Some areas in sand are wet? what shoud I do??

Answer:

If the floor was insulated in the past, that odour will take a year or two to dissapate. If it is still insulated, you can plan on the odour staying. Ventilation and possibly a scrubbing with hot water mixed 50/50 with original formula listerine will do you about the most good in getting rid of it once the insulation is gone.
