Our cottage has cathedral ceilings with ridge vents. What would be the cause of ice buildup along the edges of the roof and leaking in the house? Is this normal?
Answer:
There are a number of things that can cause this. The first one I suspect is a lack of ventilation in the soffits. Secondly, insulation having slid down and covering the soffits thereby causing a lack of ventilation there. Another could be a lack of vapour barrier under the insualtion in the roof cavity. There are, no doubt, others too but these are the most common.
