Would you know the R-value of a hardwood floor vs a carpet+pad over a crawl space. I assume the carpet insultates the floor over the crawl space in the winter, but I would like to have hardwood floor instead. I'm concerned that it might get cold if I do.
Answer:
Both have R values about the same as a brick and putting down either one will not help conserve heat because they reach the same temperature as the underside of the floor and although they get up to body temperature faster than concrete, they get that heat from you and not as a reserve people think they might hold.
