Top > Insulation > Structure

Question:

I'm buying a new home from an Ottawa, Ontario builder; their technology is to use for exterior walls 1.5" panels and then to add the plastic sidings. Behind the panels they put bat insulation and then drywall. The walls are supported by 2x4 studs. How reliable is this structure? I've seen it used only by two builders and a third one is using a similar non-conventional technique. Do they have to provide some fire barrier as it's written on the panels? I'm rather "green" in terms of house building and I got a sinking feeling with my builder in terms of quality.

Answer:

If the system was worthy of a building permit, it is reliable.
