I am thinking about putting either shingles or siding on the house. I was told by a friend that if I use siding, not to use rigid foam insulation under. He said there would be a moisture problem and that there might be rot problems. I am sort of confused about that. Most of the places I see putting siding up have the insulation. If there is a big problem, I will just go to shingles.
Answer:
I'm certainly not a fan of siding over siding because of condensation possibilities and a host of other things but there are other considerations too. Why not take off the old siding, build out around windows and doors, apply rigid glass fibre insulation and then put your new siding over that? I've used it and it works very well.
