Question:

Your standard procedure for insulating basement walls is well explained - build a 2x4 wall 1.5 inches from the basement wall and use R20 Batts. One question - my R20 package indicates the batts are 15.5 inches wide - will this not lead to a .5 inch vertical gap between the batts at the basement wall if the 2x4 wall is 16 inches O.C.? If so can I assume any heat loss would be minor?

Answer:

Actually, the 2X4s are 1.5" thick so the gaps between them are 14.5" - this makes for negligible compression once the bats are installed.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot comment on specific products, recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.
