I'm a parent volunteer at my son's co-operative pre-school and I've been asked to look into insulating the crawlspace at the preschool. The crawlspace is about 20", and has some batting directly under the floor - They"re wondering whether they should/could have insulation blown in as well to make the floor warmer.I would be concerned that the blown-in insulation would get damp/wet, and possibly give off fumes that would come into the school.
Answer:
Insulating a floor has never been my first choice and doing a job such as you describe is probably one of the main reasons for it. Once that wood gets wet (and it will get wet) the gasses that it will give off are anything but healthy for anyone to ingest.
