Top > Insulation > Beam

Question:

Can you please tell me something about spray-on insulation such as I have seen in commercial buildings, especially on ceilings? Would this be suitable for covering steel beams in a house? I understand this keeps the beams from softening in fire, but does it also provide insulation against cold?

Answer:

Its a good insulator if that's what the compound is designed to do. I would not bother with it for the beam in a house because for less money, time and effort, I can accomplish the same thing and better with bats.
