A colleague of mine is now updating it and many of her neighbours have insulated the skirt surrounding the base of the mobile home. The unit is about 3 ft off the ground and is surrounded by a board-stock skirt that covers the gap from the bottom of the floor to the ground. There are a few small gaps that need plugging. The floor underneath the home is insulated and has a vapour barrier. After ordering all of this material and then going around to find someone to install this she has received a dozen or more suggestions to not go ahead with this project. They all say that the boards around the home are sufficient. Should she still go ahead?
Answer:
She'll be far better off to insulate a well built skirt than to leave just the boards. She should also make sure there are vents installed on all walls and in order the avoid someone having to crawl around down there a couple of times each year, the vents should be controlable from outside.
