Question:

We have just purchased a "new" 4 year old modular that is on a basement.I was wandering if it is necessary to keep the insulation and black plastic on the bottom of the modular floor, it hangs in the basement. Is the insulation only there for modulars that are put on a crawl-space? Or is it necessary for us to keep it where it is? We think we have mice in the insulation. We are in the country!

Answer:

The insulation is there so that when the modular is parked with no skirting or crawl space, the floor is protected. If you have an insulated and vapour barriered skirt or an insulated and vapour barriered foundation, I would remove the insulation from the structure floor because it is doing you more harm than good by way of attracting moisture and retaining it. Besides, it more isolating that insulating anyway.
