Just bought a house which was built in the 1980s. There is an intermitant sound from the tub (standard size), which gives a hollow, metallic sound - exactly like a drop of water hitting the tub. There is no water, therefore, that is not the problem. Also, when you stand in the mid to rear portion of the tub, the same squeeky sound happens. Is there a quick fix or should I make arrangements for a bank loan.

A bit of support is now missing (and probably always was) under the tub and it is 'oil canning'. This is nothing to be concerned about but it can often tell you whether the kids actually got into the tub when you sent them for a bath. One of mine didn't always do that!
