Question:

I am renovating my bathroom and have 2 questions. First, my contractor is planning on laying ceramic tile over existing floor consisting of those 4x4 tiles...can he do that? Can it be done with special adhesive or should he take it up?

Second, wainscoting will be put up around the perimeter of the bathroom and will be the backsplash of the tub as well. What's the best type of paint to use in this moist environment since it may get wet being behind the jacuzzi tub?

Answer:

Provided the existing tiles are ceramic, there shouldn't be a problem and it doesn't even require a special adhesive.

No matter what kind of paint you use on it, it will get wet because it reacts to changes in temperature and atmospheric humidity and as it does, it opens up the seams which are raw wood and act like a sponge.
