Question:

I am re-grouting my bathroom wall tile. While removing the old grout some of the tiles partially came away from the wall. The tiles were attached to drywall. The drywall is now soft and crumbly (water seapage?). I don't have time to do a complete removal of the old tile and drywall. We plan on doing this bigger job in the spring. Is there an easy way to re-attach the tile (it is still hanging by the grout joint)? Will re-grouting 'hold' the tile in place for the time being?

Answer:

Not really. The temperature variations in that room are too great for one to keep up with the other when it comes to expansion and contraction. It should take less than a dozen showers for the drywall to be soaked again. Even if the whole family showers at once, that will not take you to the spring!
