Question:

My house is 24 years old. I need advice on replacement of bath tub and tiles around the tub (avocado green era). My problem: 2 tiles (1"x2" size) were pushed in too forcefully (because they were sticking out a bit) and now I've got a hole in the wall around the tub. I was very surprised to find that there is empty space behind the tiles (as opposed to solid wall). Is this the way it's supposed to be? What should I be aware of before I get a bathroom renovation co. to do the work?

Answer:

That is the way the wall is built and all the walls in the house are the same so don't be put off by it. The area you're in seems to be old enough that you should be talking to other homeowners in the area and find out who did a good job for them. Most people are not only willing, but anxious to share experiences like this.
