Question:

I want to renovate the ensuite bath and incorporate natural light. The only wall available is also the only location that can be used for the shower stall. I wondered if glass block could be used in this situation or if the exteme cold in winter would cause too much problem.

Answer:

You are really trying to monkey with Mother Nature and she won't be kind when fuel bill time comes. Glass block walls are as energy (in)efficeint as ordinary masonry brick walls with no lining inside nor out. The first thing you'd be dealing with condensation in amounts that are hard to believe until you actually experience them and of course, big time heatloss. I'd be tempted, in your situation, to consider a skylight with a large-diameter fan in the skylight well instead.
