Question:

We are thinking of buying a home which has no windows in the kitchen. There's also no way to put a window in the kitchen (it's a long and narrow row house, attached on both sides, and the kitchen is currently located in the middle of the house). The kitchen is now fully enclosed.
We're considering making it open concept, flowing into the dining room (which flows into the living room and large patio doors) to get some natural light. Any suggestions re lighting, ventilation etc? We're a bit concerned about odours and noise interferring with the use of the dining and living room.

Answer:

Ventilation is the easy part because you can build a chase for the duct and lead it to anywhere you like. For lighting you should hire someone who specializes in that field becuase its going to impact on just about everything you do the whole house not only the kitchen. There are all kinds of interior designers who can help with this.
