Our elevated bungalow is about 25-30 years old. The garage has one wall with bricks on it, there is bricking around the bottom of the house and the remainder of the house is siding. The concrete stairs to the front door have shifted over time so they have leaned into the brick wall of the garage. The one garage door now does not close properly, and there are cracks in the mortar between the bricking on the garage wall. What to do? Just hire someone to move the stairs, re-brick the garage? Move the stairs and reside the whole house?

The first step in this compromise situation will be to replace the concrete steps with wood or some such because once they're out of there, you might decide to do any number of things. If your bricks, for example, are the old, imperially measured product, you will not be able to find new ones to replace them with. An imaginative contractor on the other hand, can suggest a number of other aesthetically pleasing remedies.
