Question:

Our house is 36 years old and built on clay. The front porch is roughly 5X5 ft. concrete. My problem is it keeps sinking. The porch has had several new tops but that adds to the problem. Should the porch be removed completely and a new concrete porch built with proper footings etc. I had an estimate of $3800.

Answer:

If it keeps sinking, there has to be a reason and replacing it with concrete is not the answer. On the other hand, neither can you just leave it there. You'll have to have it removed and then build a new one out of wood or some other material. Your soil appears to be quite unstable and anything heavy will just sink again.
