I have a 125 year old house and red brick. My grandson sprayed the outside with a pressure washer and some of the cement came off between the cracks. It is bad mostly on the second floor. I can see daylight coming through in some places and the lath. My grandson was surprised by the power of this machine. What do I do to solve this problem? My grandson wants to come back and clean the gutters. I'm not sure that's a good idea. I'm 82 years and I don't think I can fix the cracks. If I can, please tell me how.
Answer:
The mortar that has been blasted out from between the bricks can be replaced by a process known as "Tuck pointing" but by the sound of things this is not a job for the novice. Get a pro to do it because in its present state, I believe it is also a hazard.
