Question:

I have a question regarding a deck I will be building this coming spring. I am wondering about footings because we are thinking of maybe putting a roof on the deck at a later date. Should I go 3 - 4 feet down or can I just use patio slabs and deck blocks.

Answer:

I wouldn't go down at all. I'd far rather see the deck supported on patio blocks.
