Question:

My parents are moving into a retirement community just north of Toronto, Ontario. The homes are presently being built, and they plan to do the brickwork during the last two weeks of December. Isn't it too cold with it hovering around the freezing mark and too damp to be laying brick? Isn't there a more likely chance for moisture being trapped and efflorescence being a problem in the future?

Answer:

Not necessarily because there are additives that can do a lot to prevent that sort of thing. If you're really concerned, why not look at mortarless bricks and your troubles are over.
