Expert Q Ren Molnar Q&A Archive
Top > Masonry & Chimneys > Humidity

Question:

You have sent me an answer on the
basement exhaust fan.
My second part of the question is,
can we put the pipe into the chimmney
hole? We have a high eff furnace and
are not using the chimmney.
It is right beside the furnace would
that be too close to use to exhaust?

Answer:

No, you cannot. The humidity you're exhausting will create mould and mildew that the chimney (metal or masonry) would never be able to survive.
