I want to conduct a major renovation of our existing house. We live on West River Drive, Manotick, ON. I believe our house was originally built in the late 60’s or early 70’s. Three sides of the house has brick and one side has siding, (new siding we added last year.)The options range from replacing the bathroom and kitchen; installing a new roof; adding a whole new master bedroom with ensuite bathroom fire place etc., this would mean adding a new level as the house is now a bungalow. Re doing the walls so we can insulate if necessary from the inside; re doing the basement wall to reinforce against water leakage; repairing the garage. It would depend on the cost time etc.
Answer:
The first thing to do is address the basement concerns you have and then you can do as you please. An idea you might want to consider is cantelevering the new upper level three feet on all sides. This would give you much more space and the inside can be finished at your leasure. None of what you suggest is beyond feasability so now its back to decision-making time.
