We're about to sign a contract with a renovator. What should we be sure to include and what should we be on the look out for? Can we specify a timeframe within which the work must be completed? What cost over-run provisions and limits can or should be included? Can you make any suggestions that we (as true and anxious novices) might not think of?
Answer:
You should also include starting and completion dates, a statement that says all changes to the written contract must be approoved by you in writing and that the site is left clean when they're done. These are only some of the things you need and to list them all, your lawyer attended classes for several years to learn what else may be in that contract. You might want to discuss it with him.
