I am planning to use an old bathroom exhaust fan to remove moist air from the basement. I am installing it in the ceiling vented to the outside with an intake pipe running from the fan down to the floor. I understand this should be taking air from 6" above the floor, at least that is what I believe you have said on your program. Is this a max. height that it should be above the floor or an exact height? In other words can I bring the pipe right down to the floor with a 90-degree elbow on the bottom with the intake at the opening at the end of the elbow or does it have to be higher off the floor than that? I am planning to user 4" pipe.
Answer:
The ideal place for the end of that duct is on the floor but the edge of it has to be bent back in several spots so it has access to air on the floor. That's the way it will be effective.
