My double metal garage door faces due south, and I like a glossy finish on it. The sun fades it and every other year it needs painting. About five years ago, I thought oil based paint would stand up better to the fading, so I used this to paint the door. But working with oil is a tiring and dirty chore. What can I use to cover the oil and then switch to latex?
Answer:
Give the whole thing a good scrubbing with steel wool and varsol and then prime it with a product that is clearly marked as being compatible with either oil based or water based paints. Once that's done, you can paint with whichever you wish.
