I wrote to you about patching the hole in the foundation wall where the sewer pipe goes out. Did as I was told and got a small leak after all the heavy rains. Have dug down again and will redo part of the patch. I also dug down far enough to find the drain tile that goes around the house. I rented a snake and went through both ways until it would go no further, then flushed it out with the garden house. The water is now running into the sump pump hole. Because the block wall had damp spots on it during the last heavy rain we have decided to dig that side up along the whole wall and properly backfill the excavation. The existing tile is clay. Should we replace it with big O? The existing tile seems to be in good shape. What should we put on the wall to help seal it better? There is a tar coating over the parging. Do we need to get rid of the tar coating that is presently on?
Answer:
There should be no need to replace the Big O and the wall can have a sheet material applied to it if need be when you have done the excavation. There is no need to remove the existing tar coating.
