Question:

I want to re-side only the north side (cold) of my house adding perhaps 1.5 inches of rigid foam insulation under the siding. The vertical corner/end cap siding pieces are nailed in to the wall of the house, then the end of each piece of siding is placed into this L shaped "end cap" . (It finishes each corner of the house). Since I want only to change one face of the house with additional thickness insulation and siding, how do I get that corner piece off/(or cut it) both the east and west ends of the north side and what do I put on to replace this L shaped end cap?

Answer:

Be careful with how much rigid foam insulation you add because at 1.5" it serves as a vapour barrier and its on the wrong side of the already insulated wall. To cap the corners, talk to someone who does aluminum siding for a living. They can make you up an end cap to fit.
