how can i convert regular lawn mower in to a mower with mulching capabilites by adding extra blades?

I wouldn't dare edd blades to a mower but somthing I've tried with some success is blocking off the chute that exhausts the cut grass. The blocker is a firmly attached metal plate. The longer the grass stays under the hood the more it gets chewed up.
