Question:

I have a piece of vinal siding which has a hole from having been punctured by the latch of my back yard gate. This puncture if approximately thre inches long. Can I replace that one piece of siding and if so, do I have to take off the siding below the puncture? Is there a way to patch this puncture.

Answer:

I don't know that I'd want to replace one piece of siding because there'll certainly be a great enough colour difference to mnake it stand out. Rather, I'd use flat stock aluminum or some such to drape over a 3/4" plywood patch over the hole. This aluminum can be pre-formed and then applied after the plywood is attached.
