Question:

We have been in our new home now for about 6 months and finally the new home builder along with the installer of the hardwood floors have come up with the following solution to the problem of paint flecks and paint smudges on the hardwood floor; to spot sand and then put a final coat of "whatever" over all the surface to get it back to its original "sheen". I don't think the floors are going to have that lovely "sheen" throughout when they finish after they have sanded in more than 150 spots and then put on a final coat. I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Answer:

This sounds like a familiar story and it will be re-sanded and finished again before you let them off the hook. You might mention to the flooring people that this time you want someone who knows how to handle all the equipment; including the paint brushes.
