Question:

Can I use a good quality latex ceiling paint as an undercoat/base paint (primer) before a final latex finishing coat on walls? If not, why not? If the answer is no, can I at least use the same roller for both jobs without cleaning in between? If yes, should I paint using the ceiling paint first or the wall primer first?

Answer:

If you want a good job, and a poor job shows up on the ceiling faster than anywhere else, you'll prime and paint with the stuff manufactured for the purpose. It is the primer that dictates how good all future paint jobs are going look. Rollers are cheap, break down a bit and change it every time you change paints. Once one has been used it becomes fouled and using it to apply another kind of paint will show that.
