Question:

We have a finished basement that has wallboard. It was done aprrox. 24yrs ago. We would like to put drywall over the wallboard, can this be done? It's quite a large room with a bedroom at one end. Should we just paint it, we would just like to make it brighter down there. There is insulation behind the wallboard, and it's not the cheap wallboard. What would you suggest?

Answer:

It would be far easier and less expensive to give it a good scrubbing with steel wool and a paint thinner and then prime and paint it. Yes, the grooves will still show but who cares! You can paint it whatever colour you like and the savings can go toward something else.
