This house has beautiful wide trim that we would like to refinish. Most of it is painted with a high gloss white paint that you can pretty much see your reflection in. I have used a spray-on paint stripper, however it took me a couple of hours to do a small piece and it's still not done. It looks like there is about 5 layers of paint and then stain - some of it is possibly lead paint because the spray makes it pasty. I realize that this is a big job, but what would you suggest to be the easiest/best way to strip it so that I would be able to stain it?
Answer:
I'd turn a good heat gun to the loose paint that's there and take it down as far as possible with that. Then you can apply your paint remover and work more profitably with it.
