Question:

I am going to be ripping out the carpets and baseboards in my house and have new carpeting installed by a professional. I would however like to install and paint the new baseboard myself. Is there a set order in which this is to be done so that I do not get paint on the new carpet nor, severly scuff the new baseboard? Also are there any pointers or tips I would want to follow to install new baseboard which will be for a carpeted floor (ie how far off the bottom of the floor I would want to install it, or if you can buy spacers to set for laying the baseboard along the wall) ?

Answer:

In cases like this I always paint the baseboards in the garage and then touch up the nail heads once they're installed. I know that developers install them first but they already know how thick the carpet in the various rooms is going to be.
