Question:

We are about to paint a room that is curved ceiling to wall with NO distinct dividing line. The ceiling will be white and the wall will be another color. How do we best make the distinction between ceiling and wall and how do we get the line straight and level?

Answer:

First snap a chalk line and then follow it with painters' masking tape. The chalk line may not be level because ceilings are seldom level themselves so measure from the ceiling down. Employ a carpenter's square and a level to get these measurements right. The square goes on the ceiling with the short end of it point downward. The level is now used to measure how far down the wall you want to go. Yes, you need a third hand so have someone else make the pencil mark. The pencil marks will be joined with the chalk line.
