I built an outdoor dog jump for a friend using select spruce 2x4's and 2x2's that I picked up from a local lumber retailer. Now I need to paint them a nice Royal Blue colour and I don't know what type of paint to use or if I should include a primer or even if I should use a stain instead of paint. I'm sure that the wood contains plenty of moisture above and beyond what a kiln dried piece would contain and I don't want to see the paint bubble up and peel.
Answer:
As long as the wood is not properly dried out, paint will not look good on it. Let it dry and then stain it. Spruce is not normally know for its paintability.
