Question:

Presently we have 8" white compressed wood fibre siding that is approx. 21 yrs old on our house. A portion is beginning to peel where it is exposed to the worst weather! I see two possibilities;-scraping,sanding, and painting the existing siding!-or-replacing it with vinyl siding. I would like you to comment on both options.

Answer:

If you plan decide to paint it, you'll get about four years out of the paint job and then it is time to do it again. Vinyl siding, like all other sidings, will fade to a certain extent but the siding itself does not deteriorate so you have a decision to make.
