Question:

We want to paint but need to know about this problem. We heat with wood, therefore, the walls and ceiling are sooty. I washed them as well as I could but it seems endless. Can you tell me how I can go and paint over the soot. I thought maybe priming every room and ceiling. Needless to say, this will be our last year of heating with wood.

Answer:

It would be my last year of painting! For best results, talk to your insurance representative who will tell you who does their post-fire painting for them. These folks have products that I don't think you and I have access to and they know how to cover things up really good.
