I would like to repaint the planking on my deck. What is the best way to prep and what kind of paint is the best to use for this purpose? I live in Vancouver with 2 north facing decks that are uncovered.
Answer:
Prepping it is a simple matter of letting it go very dry and then making sure the wood is clean. If its cedar of PT, I wouldn't paint it at all because it doesn't add to the wood's longevity but if one insists, it has to be primed and painted. The secret here is to prime according to the instructions on the paint can so both prime and paint are compatible and the paint adheres.
