Question:

I purchased a house with an exsiting deck attached. The deck is pressure treated but has never had any paint or stain applied. The deck is about 10 ears old. The wood grain is raised and gives slivers to any one who touches the wood. I would like to paint or stain the deck,
what do I have to do to the deck to prepare the wood for the stain, and how can I reduce the amount of slivers that the deck sheds?

Answer:

About the only thing that will get rid of the slivers is removing each slat and turning it over. You will then have to apply a dark stain to cover the aging tracks.
