Question:

My Dad & I love your show. I have a steel outside door with a small half window at the top. The sealer around the window is "oozing" out and down the door. How can I get this stuff off, and how can I fix the problem of the window? Also the door has pit marks all over it - I want to repaint it. Is there any particular way I should prepare the door before painting, and do I need to use special metal paint?

Answer:

You may have to remove the trim around the window and introduce new sealant. The old stuff should wash off with varsol. Actually, its varsol and steel wool you'll be using to scrub the door anyway in preparation for priming and painting.
